I hope that the following pages help to give an insight into the long since abandoned railway between Halifax and Queensbury. Although the line is no more than 5 miles long, the engineering required to reach Queensbury was very tough indeed. In excess of 3000 yards of tunnel, 1000 yards of deep cuttings and several hundred yards of viaduct were required to complete the line. Little wonder it was referred to as the "Alpine Route". The former pictures have been obtained from many sources and I have given credit wherever possible to the photographers concerned. I hope that they will look kindly on their work being used on this site, which is not for any financial gain, but simply for the enjoyment and education of others.
